MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 2314 NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK 1137 PM CST THU DEC 28 2006 AREAS AFFECTED...EXTREME ERN CO...NWRN KS AND SWRN NEB CONCERNING...FREEZING RAIN VALID 290537Z - 290930Z FREEZING RAIN RATES ARE LIKELY TO INCREASE BETWEEN 07Z AND 12Z ACROSS PORTIONS OF NWRN KS AND SWRN NEB. AMOUNTS UP TO .05 INCH PER HOUR ARE POSSIBLE DURING THIS PERIOD. STATIONARY FRONT STRETCHES ACROSS KS FROM THE N CENTRAL SECTIONS INTO THE SW. A 40 KT SELY LOW LEVEL JET EXTENDED FROM CENTRAL OK NWWD INTO KS OVER...THIS SHALLOW BOUNDARY...RESULTING IN STRONG FRONTOGENESIS AROUND 900 MB. WEAK PRECIPITATION ECHOES ARE LOCATED WITHIN JET AXIS FROM CENTRAL OK NWWD INTO SRN/SWRN KS AND SHOULD SPREAD NWWD AND INCREASE WITHIN THE JET AXIS. THE LIFT FROM THE WARM ADVECTION WILL BE ACCENTUATED BY A MID/HIGH LEVEL JET MAX LIFTING NWD FROM THE TX PANHANDLE INTO WRN KS/NEB LATER TONIGHT. THIS SHOULD RESULT IN PRECIPITATION INCREASING IN COVERAGE/INTENSITY...ESPECIALLY AFTER 07Z. ALTHOUGH SURFACE TEMPERATURES ARE BELOW FREEZING...TEMPERATURES ARE 1 TO 3C ABOVE FREEZING BETWEEN 900MB AND 800MB...WHICH WILL RESULT IN PRECIPITATION REACHING THE GROUND AS FREEZING RAIN. ALTHOUGH SOME FREEZING RAIN HAS BEEN REPORTED IN ERN CO...THE COLD AIR WILL DEEPEN ACROSS THIS REGION AND IS EXPECTED TO CHANGE TO SNOW BETWEEN 06Z-09Z. ..IMY.. 12/29/2006 ...NOTICE...
